NDSU’s Nelson Leaves For Swiss League

Mike Nelson – member of the North Dakota State University men's basketball team – left the United States to join a two-week try out for the Switzerland "A" league. He flew on Sunday, after recently signing up with the Fribourg Olympic.

Nelson is the third player of the Bisons to go abroad to play. Previously, former teammates Brett Winkelman (forward) and Ben Woodside (guard) have joined the professional league. Woodside is currently playing in France. The Fribourg team has been a title contender in the "A" league championships for the past several years.

Meanwhile, the NDSU's men's and women's basketball teams are looking forward to doing doubleheaders when they return to the Bison Sports Arena in the upcoming basketball season. Schedule changes are currently being made for the Summit, wherein the women's teams will be playing Mondays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. while the men are set to play at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday.

These changes were brought on by observations made including, "better attendance, staffing and feedback from fans," according to athletic director Gene Taylor. Carolyn DeHoff, head coach of the NDSU women's team said that they do not mind returning to their former schedules as doubleheaders have worked quite well for their teams before.
