March is a big month for college basketball in the US, and more of these games will be played in Kansas City than anywhere else in the country. This turns the downtown into a beehive of activity as visitors from across the country boost the local population and economy by an estimated $18 million this month alone. That's because there are three separate tournaments taking place in the city in March.

First there is the Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium, followed by the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship at the Sprint center on March 16, and then the 74th Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division 1 Men's Basketball National Championship wraps things up at Municipal. The Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association plans to take full advantage of the opportunity to showcase the region, hoping for a domino effect that filters through to local businesses and fuels the economy for years to come.

How much subjectivity goes into college basketball rankings? Enough that whoever is ranked No. 2 is going to think it's unfair. Kansas is currently ranked No. 2, but there is a chance they will soon be surpassed in the rankings by No. 3 Texas, and if this is the case then Jayhawks everywhere will cry foul as there is no justification for losing the No. 2 spot right after blowout wins over Missouri and Iowa State.

If, on the other hand, Kansas takes over the No. 1 spot form Ohio State, Texas will still be upset about being behind a team that it beat. But the real question remains, who is really the best team in the country right now? It can be argued that Kansas, Texas, Ohio State and Pittsburgh all have legitimate claims to the top spot, but strictly based on the numbers, the No. 1 will likely go to Kansas or Texas.
